195 miles.

This project was a collabertion between PSL (Leeds) and the Whitechapel Gallery (London) which saw a group of Leeds-based and London-based artists paired into separate groups of four to create a bridge between the ‘195 miles’ from Leeds to London.

The idea was not to have a final end product but show the way they groups managed to bridge the gap by letting the project develop in the space, so effectivly the gallery became the artists studios.

there was some real intresting works that developed in this difficult situation and some that i feel didnt work.

Overall I felt that it was a mix of successes and failier asthetically and withing bringing artsists together to colaberate.

The most succsessful pieces were "radio leeds radio london"which simultaniously played radio leeds and radio london on two seperate radios at the front of the galley making a wall of distorted incoherent noise but i feel acheiving the idea of the brief successfully.

Another piece that intrested me was The collaboration between black dog's Dave Ronalds and london duo Matt&Ross which consissisted of a fax machine placed near the ceiling, lights, a smoke machine, an amplafier a fan and paper.Every fifteen minutes the fax machine linked to a computer in london would reptativly beep (which was amplified) which started a series of pantomime esc events and wared of the begining of the show, as the light turns on the smoke machine blasts out smoke and then the fax arraives falling from the sky into the crosswinds of the fan blowing it 5 to 10 feet away. I feel that this piece sucsessfully achievd to bridge the gap between london and leeds again using technology.
