Semiotics

Semiotics will feature predominantly in our collaborative was, as the conveyance of our desired meaning relies heavily upon the visual element to support the theory.

"
A sign must have both a signifier and a signified. You cannot have a totally meaningless signifier or a completely formless signified." "A sign is a recognizable combination of a signifier with a particular signified." (Course in General Linguistics; Saussure 1983, 101; Saussure 1974, 102-103)

this alludes to the 'bridging' element of the piece, and in a broader context infers a state of transition within everything. Space and time, light and dark, cognition and perception, birth and death.
