Take-away shows
Take-away shows is a website which films live performances of bands but with a difference, it takes bands out into public places whether it be the streets of Paris to the London underground and has them perform stripped back versions of their songs within these spaces.
Vbs
This site is the internet television program from vice magazine. It films documentaries aimed at a youth culture, these documentaries can cover anything from politics to music.
Soft focus
This is one of the many channels on vbs, this is like a chat show where the host interviews ult music celebrities such as Mark E Smith and Kevin Sheilds.
Practise space
This is another program on vbs which is heavily music based. The film crew film up and coming/bands of the moment during there band practise in wherever they choose to practise. This gives a up and close feel of the bands and also gives vbs the opportunity t interview the bands in there space.
Kasabian
These are not a band I particularly enjoy but they always seem to have decent videos. All there videos seem to have a plot which makes them into more a short film rather than a music video.
The unloved
I watched this on channel 4 a little while ago and really enjoyed the framing of every shot, It kept me interested in the content of the film.
Vampire weekend and maccabees
These two bands seem to have a huge D.I.Y ethic to there videos. While being reformative videos they tend to involve some craft based pieces, whether it be finger puppets or ………………….they seem to have a lovely warming feel to them.
Chris Cunningham
He is one of y favourite music video directors who has worked with a wide range of people from Cher to Aphex twin. I particularly enjoy his Aphex twin videos as they always seem to have a creepy twist to them.
The Horrors
These are another band who seem to have a theme to there videos, unlike Kasbian thy tend to preform live rather than have a story plot.
James Willis
He seems to be in the Chris Cunningham mould, His videos are always dark and maybe slightly unnerving to some people. He has created videos for local bands such as Old Romantic Killer Band and Jon Jones And The Beatnik Movement.
Youtube and viral adverts
Generally you tube is full of rubbish and home videos ut sometimes you can stumble across a gem of a video, whether it be something of use like tutorials or just a homemade comical video about cats. This website has led to another form of video being born, the viral advert.
Viral adverts seem to have been created for the you tube generation, they always seem to have the feeling they have been shot with a hand held camera or camera phone. I like how these videos look and how they seem to work, and it’s a great way to advertise a product on the cheap.
for my first video iv'e decided to produce a shot sci-fi video. this is it.
for my music video ive been working with a friend of mine to produce a music video for a track of his. it is set in my basement and is basicly a video of his preformance. Ive had a few set backs with producing this video but hopefully i can get this sorted out so i can produce the video for the deadline, if not i will work on this and get it done anyway.
EVALUATION
During this project I have learnt quite a few valuable skills that I feel I have used and will use in future projects, such as the basics of final cut and how to use a video camera effectively.
The problems I have incurred during this project have been a major hindrance to my final outcome.
During the final stages of the editing process of my music video I had some major technical problems.
The hard drive I was using to edit and save my videos on malfunctioned and ceased to work. After waiting two weeks to see if any data could e saved from my hard drive I received a text message from the store with bad news, they couldn’t recover any data from my hard drive.
This has meant I have had to start the editing process all over again. This has not left me with enough time to do so and has left me with no choice but to hand in incomplete work.
The music video I was intending to hand in was going to be a video for a friend’s song. It was shot in my basement in a few takes to capture vocals, slide guitar and foot tapping along with footage of the surroundings. It required me to sink up the audio with the visual during the editing which was a hard and long process which unfortunately I haven’t had enough time to re master for the deadline.
The music video is something in hindsight would of changed the way I went about it.
I feel that if I had stuck to the brief I would have successfully have collaborated with other students to produce a video. The reason I chose to work alone was because at the time I felt I could achieve the task I took on.
I feel either given more time or if I hadn’t had major technical set backs I would have created a interesting video which shows the technical abilities I have gained from this course. This video is something I am keen to finish a.s.a.p.
The first video I produced was a short how to/ sci-fi video which showed me being “teleported” to different setting with the touch of a button. The way this was intentionally shot required very little editing.
I feel I have learnt a lot during these few lessons and I know it has helped me produce 2 videos for other projects which I feel I wouldn’t have been able to do without this elective giving me the introduction into final cut.
