Adrian Piper is a Performance artist who in 1970-71 produced a series called Catalysis These performances were intended to show her self as a "catalytic agent" within the public sphere, causing change but not changing herself. In catalysis iii Piper painted herself and wore a wet paint sign so anyone brushing or barging past would end up covered in paint. This act would create a temporary community as the people present at the time were unaware of what was happening but are all linked because of this performance.
