jane and louise wilson

On a recent visit to Whitworth art gallery i came across this. This is a 4 screen video installation by the wilson sisters. It is a video of the apollo monument in Peterlee by Victor Pasmore over run by young youths from the town. It was built between 1963 and 1970. Its intended purpose was a symbol of an idealistic future for the town and its inhabitants. People were supposed to interact with this part sculpture part architecture and be a busy vibrant social point, but as the video shows it is almost deserted apart from the children clambering over it.
